3.9-magnitude quake hits Zamboanga del Norte

(Eagle News)–A 3.9-magnitude earthquake struck off Zamboanga del Norte today, Nov. 2. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake, which struck at 2:29 p.m., had its epicenter 86 kilometers northwest of Labason. It had a depth of 32 kilometers. No damage to property nor aftershocks were expected.

PHIVOLCS warns vs lahar, muddy streamflows at Taal, Mayon, Pinatubo

(Eagle News)–The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology on Sunday said “Rolly” may generate volcanic sediment flows or lahar and muddy streamflows in Pinatubo, Taal and Mayon. (Eagle News)–A 4.2-magnitude earthquake struck off Northern Samar on Saturday, Oct. 31. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake, which struck at 4:32 a.m., had its epicenter 23 kilometers southeast of Mapanas. It had a depth of one kilometer. No damage to property nor aftershocks were reported.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake struck at  7:37 a.m. It had its epicenter 29 kilometers southwest of Itbayat, and was tectonic in origin. No damage to property nor aftershocks were reported.

4.0-magnitude quake hits Batanes

(Eagle News)–A 4.0-magnitude earthquake struck off Batanes early Friday, Oct. 23. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake struck 116 kilometers southeast of Basco at 3:47 a.m. It had a depth of one kilometer, and was tectonic in origin. No damage to property nor aftershocks were reported.

PHIVOLCS: No tsunami threat to PHL following strong Alaska quake

(Eagle News)–There is no tsunami threat to the Philippines. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology issued the advisory early Tuesday, Oct. 20, after a 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck Alaska. US agencies pegged the magnitude at a higher 7.5. The quake hit 92 kilometers from the city of Sand Point. It had a depth of 40 kilometers, according to the US Geological Survey. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake, which hit at 11:43 a.m., had its epicenter 38 kilometers southeast of Governor Generoso. It had a depth of 118 kilometers. No damage to property nor aftershocks were recorded.
