3.2-magnitude quake hits Cagayan

(Eagle News)–A 3.2-magnitude earthquake struck Cagayan on Saturday, Aug. 31. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake, of tectonic origin, hit 37 kilometers northwest of Santa Ana at 3:57 p.m. Depth of focus was 12 kilometers. No damage to property nor aftershocks were recorded.  

Rainfall alert hoisted over parts of N. Luzon

(Eagle News)–A rainfall advisory has been hoisted over parts of Northern Luzon. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said light to moderate rains are expected over Boliney, Bucloc, Daguioman and Malibcong in Abra due to a low pressure area. (Eagle News)–A 3.2-magnitude earthquake struck Surigao del Sur on Friday, Aug. 30. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake, of tectonic origin, hit 15 kilometers northwest of Cagwait at 1:24 p.m. Depth of focus was 120 kilometers. No damage to property nor aftershocks were recorded.

3.0-magnitude quake hits Davao Oriental

(Eagle News)–A 3.0-magnitude earthquake struck Davao Oriental on Friday, Aug. 30. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake, of tectonic origin, hit 50 kilometers southeast of Governor Generoso at 8:19 a.m. Depth of focus of the quake was 130 kilometers. No damage to property nor aftershocks were recorded.

Thunderstorm advisory hoisted over Zambales, Bataan

(Eagle News)–A thunderstorm advisory has been raised over Zambales and Bataan. The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said moderate to heavy rainshowers with lightning and strong winds are expected over the two provinces within the next 2 hours. PAGASA advised residents to  take precautionary measures against the impacts associated with hazards that include flash floods and landslides. “Keep monitoring for updates,” PAGASA said.

(Eagle News)–A 3.2-magnitude earthquake struck Northern Samar on Thursday, Aug. 29. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake, of tectonic origin, hit 16 kilometers northeast of Mapanas at 7:25 a.m. Depth of focus of the quake was 15 kilometers. No damage to property nor aftershocks were recorded.

4.1-magnitude earthquake hits Batanes

(Eagle News)–A 4.1-magnitude earthquake struck Batanes on Wednesday, Aug. 28. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake, of tectonic origin, hit 26 kilometers southeast of Itbayat at 11:02 a.m. Depth of focus of the quake was 14 kilometers. An instrumental intensity I was felt in Basco. No damage to property nor aftershocks were recorded.  

Duterte signs law creating separate legislative district for Santa Rosa, Laguna

(Eagle News)–Santa Rosa, Laguna will have  its own representative in the House of Representatives soon. This was after President Rodrigo Duterte signed  Republic Act 11395  that creates the new legislative district separate from the existing first legislative district of Laguna. The law was signed on Aug. 22. The Commission on Elections has 60 days to draft the implementing rules and regulations of the measure.
