The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake hit at 2:45 a.m. It said it was an aftershock of the 6.2-magnitude earthquake that hit offshore Catanduanes on April 4. The epicenter of the quake on Thursday was 125 kilometers southeast of Gigmoto. The depth of focus was 48 kilometers. No damage to property nor aftershocks were reported.

(Eagle News)–There is no tsunami threat to the Philippines following the strong earthquake that hit Papua New Guinea. This is according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology. According to media reports, the quake, at 6.5 magnitude based on PHIVOLCS data, hit the New Britain Region. The depth was pegged at 65 kilometers.
