DOLE says more than 2 million workers in PHL displaced by COVID-19 pandemic

(Eagle News)–More than 2 million workers in the country were displaced by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Department of Labor and Employment said. In a statement, DOLE said of the 2,073,362 workers displaced nationwide based on reports of  79,271 establishments as of April 24, Metro Manila reported the highest displacement figure with 687,634 workers. Sister of Labor chief Bello passes away due to COVID-19

(Eagle News)–The sister of Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III passed away due to COVID-19. Bello shared the news in a Laging Handa press briefing on Saturday, April 18. He said his sister Cathy was rushed to the hospital on March 25. It was later confirmed she had the virus. “Just this morning, we received the news that my sisters, my favorite sister Cathy already left us,” Bello said.  

OFWs affected by COVID-19 pandemic to get P10,000 one-time cash assistance, says labor dep’t
