MPD forms special task force to probe DOLE employee’s killing

(Eagle News) — The Manila Police District has formed a special task force to look into the killing of a Department of Labor and Employment employee on Monday, Nov. 4.

The MPD said so far, based on footage from a closed-circuit television camera in Malate, where the ambush of senior labor officer Helen Dacanay took place, they were looking at four suspects.

These, according to the MPD, were the two gunmen who were caught shooting at Dacanay on footage in a nearby closed-circuit television camera, a “spotter” who waited for Dacanay for almost two hours to leave the DOLE office on Malvar Street, and the alleged driver of the getaway vehicle used by the gunmen.

Dacanay had just come from work and was on board a vehicle with a companion when she was ambushed.

She was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Dacanay’s companion was unharmed.

Authorities are still searching for a motive. Madz Moratillo
