Taal update: 6 quakes, weak steaming monitored; volcano still on alert level 1

(Eagle News)–Six earthquakes and weak steaming were monitored at Taal in the last 24 hours. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the  earthquakes at the volcano, which remains on alert level 1, were “associated mainly with rock-fracturing processes beneath and around the edifice.” The weak  steaming was observed from fissure vents along the Daang Kastila trail. BOC: 1.5 tons of illegally imported meds, beauty products destroyed

(Eagle News)–The government has destroyed 1.5 tons of illegally imported beauty products and medicines, the Bureau of Customs said over the weekend. 6.6-magnitude quake strikes off coast of Japan: USGS

TOKYO, Japan (AFP) — A strong but deep 6.6-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of southwest Japan early Sunday, the US Geological Survey said, but no tsunami warning was issued. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake, which struck at 10:10 a.m., had its epicenter 182 kilometers southeast of Governor Generoso. It had a depth of 79 kilometers.
