Rainfall advisory hoisted over parts of N. Luzon

(Eagle News)–A rainfall advisory has been hoisted over parts of Northern Luzon. The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said light to moderate rains are being experienced over Camiguin Island and in Aparri, Buguey, Camalanuigan, Lallo and Santa Ana in Cagayan. PAGASA said these may persist for one to two hours. “All are advised to take precautionary measures against the impacts associated with these hazards,” PAGASA said.

3.1-magnitude quake hits Surigao del Norte

(Eagle News) — A 3.1-magnitude earthquake struck Surigao del Norte on Tuesday, Jan. 28. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake, which  struck at 11:33 a.m., had its epicenter 3 kilometers northeast of Burgos. Depth of focus was 8 kilometers. No damage to property nor aftershocks were recorded.

3.4-magnitude quake hits Leyte

(Eagle News)–A 3.4-magnitude earthquake struck Leyte on Tuesday, Jan. 28. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake, which hit at 4:50 a.m., had its epicenter 10 kilometers northeast of Kananga. It had a depth of focus of 14 kilometers. An instrumental intensity II was recorded in Ormoc. No damage to property nor aftershocks were recorded.  

Thunderstorm advisory hoisted over parts of Mindanao

(Eagle News)–A thunderstorm advisory has been hoisted over parts of Mindanao. The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said  moderate to heavy rainshowers with possible lightning and strong winds due to thunderstorms are expected over Zamboanga City, Lanao del Sur, South Cotabato, Davao Occidental and Sultan  Kudarat. Classes in Tagaytay to resume on Monday, Jan. 27

(Eagle News)–Classes in Tagaytay will resume on Monday, Jan. 27. The announcement was made by Mayor Agnes Tolentino in a letter to Rommel Bautusta, school divisions superintendent of Cavite. The resumption of classes comes weeks after Taal had a phreatic eruption, prompting a mandatory evacuation from Taal volcano island and, among others, areas within the 14-kilometer danger zone. PHIVOLCS has lowered Taal’s alert level 4 to 3 following a reduction in volcanic activity.
