Taal still on alert level 2 as PHIVOLCS monitors volcanic earthquakes

(Eagle News)–The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology has monitored volcanic earthquakes at Taal, which remains on alert level 2. (Eagle News)–A 3.1-magnitude earthquake struck Southern Leyte on Friday, Feb. 28. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake, which struck at 2:58 a.m., had its epicenter 5 kilometers northwest of Pintuyan. It had a depth of focus of 33 kilometers. No damage to property nor aftershocks were recorded.

(Eagle News)–A 3.7-magnitude earthquake struck Southern Leyte on Friday, Feb. 28. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake, which struck at 5:38 p.m., had its epicenter 11 kilometers southwest of Sogod. It had a depth of focus of 1 kilometer. No damage to property nor aftershocks were recorded.

PCG: Cargo ship from China held for violation of COVID-19 security protocol

(Eagle News)–The Philippine Coast Guard has  placed a cargo ship from China under temporary detention after it supposedly violated maritime security measures in place against the novel coronavirus. State of calamity declared over Calabarzon due to Taal eruption

(Eagle News) — President Rodrigo Duterte has declared a state of calamity over Calabarzon due to the effects brought by the eruption of Taal in the region. (Eagle News)–A 3.9-magnitude earthquake struck Davao Occidental on Thursday, Feb. 27. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake, which struck at 3:38 a.m., had its epicenter 417 kilometers southeast of Sarangani. Depth of focus was 92 kilometers. No damage to property nor aftershocks were recorded.
