(Eagle News)–A 3.6-magnitude earthquake struck Surigao del Norte on Friday, Jan. 31. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake, which struck at 5:46 p.m., had its epicenter 62 kilometers northeast of Burgos. Depth of focus was one kilometer. PHIVOLCS: No tsunami threat to PHL after strong quake between Jamaica, Cuba
(Eagle News)–There is no tsunami threat to the Philippines after a strong earthquake struck between Cuba and Jamaica. This is according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, which issued a bulletin after the 7.7-magnitude quake (7.3 magnitude according to PHIVOLCS) that struck 70 miles northwest of Montego Bay. The earthquake appeared to be the biggest on record in the Caribbean. It was also the largest since 1946.

(Eagle News) — A 3.1-magnitude earthquake struck Surigao del Norte on Tuesday, Jan. 28. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake, which struck at 11:33 a.m., had its epicenter 3 kilometers northeast of Burgos. Depth of focus was 8 kilometers. No damage to property nor aftershocks were recorded.
3.4-magnitude quake hits Leyte
(Eagle News)–A 3.4-magnitude earthquake struck Leyte on Tuesday, Jan. 28. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake, which hit at 4:50 a.m., had its epicenter 10 kilometers northeast of Kananga. It had a depth of focus of 14 kilometers. An instrumental intensity II was recorded in Ormoc. No damage to property nor aftershocks were recorded.
