PHIVOLCS: No tsunami threat to PHL after strong quake between Jamaica, Cuba

(Eagle News)–There is no tsunami threat to the Philippines after a strong earthquake struck between Cuba and Jamaica.

This is according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, which issued a bulletin after the 7.7-magnitude quake (7.3 magnitude according to PHIVOLCS) that struck 70 miles northwest of Montego Bay.

The earthquake appeared to be the biggest on record  in the Caribbean.

It was also the largest since 1946.
