At least six dead in Manila fire

(Eagle News) — At least six people died after a fire hit a residential area in Manila on Thursday, Jan. 16. Authorities said the fatalities in the blaze that hit houses at the corner of Katamanan and Yuseco Streets in Tondo at 2:38 a.m. included a mother and her three children. The fire reached the third alarm and was put out at 7:14 a.m. Around 20 houses were reportedly destroyed.

DOH sends N95 masks, other items to Taal-affected Calabarzon, M. Manila

(Eagle News)–The Department of Health has sent medical supplies and other items to Metro Manila and Calabarzon, areas affected by the volcanic activity in Taal. In a statement, the DOH said those sent included drugs, medicines such as eye drops and asthma medication, medical supplies including N95 and surgical face masks, collapsible water containers and jerry cans, water purification tablets, and hygiene kits. MIAA: Over 300 flight arrivals, departures since flight ops resumed at NAIA

(Eagle News)-Over 300 flights have already left and arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport since flight operations there resumed on Monday, the Manila International Airport Authority said. According to MIAA, the 360 flights were  from 10 a.m. yesterday until 7 a.m today. No work in all M. Manila courts tomorrow, Jan. 13

(Eagle News)-Work in all Metro Manila courts is suspended tomorrow, Jan. 12. A statement from the Supreme Court said Chief Justice Diosdado Peralta made the suspension  “in the interest of everyone’s health and safety” as ashfall due to Taal reached several cities in Metro Manila. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology has hoisted an alert level 4 over Taal, which means an eruption was imminent.

MMDA: Number-coding scheme lifted tomorrow, Jan. 13

(Eagle News)-The number-coding scheme is lifted for all vehicles tomorrow, Jan. 13. The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority suspended the scheme after the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology upgraded the alert status of the volcano. The volcano is currently on alert level 4, which means a hazardous eruption is imminent. PHIVOLCS has recommended an evacuation from the volcano island and additional areas within a 14-kilometer radius of the volcano.
