News in photos: Thick smoke billows from Taal Volcano

(Eagle News)-These pictures of Taal Volcano were taken by Eagle News correspondents from different areas. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology has raised an alert level 3 over the volcano, which generated a 1-kilometer-high plume and a volcanic tremor. Earthquakes were felt in the volcano island and Agoncillo in Batangas. PHIVOLCS has recommended an evacuation from the volcano island and Agoncillo and Laurel in Batangas.

BSP launches new P20 coin, releases new nine-sided P5 coin

(Eagle News)–The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas on Tuesday, Dec. 17, launched a new P20 coin that will soon replace the old P20 bill. The coin still features former President Manuel Quezon on one side, while the other side has the image of the Malacañang Palace and the BSP logo. In photos: Building, other structures, collapse in Padada, Davao del Sur after magnitude 6.9 quake

(Eagle News) — A building collapsed in Padada, Davao del Sur after 6.9 magnitude quake struck Davao del Sur on Sunday afternoon, Dec. 15, 2019. The entire ground floor was crushed, including the vehicles parked underneath the building. Other structures in the town were also damaged including a public market as seen in the photo below. Roads and other infrastructure were also damaged by the strong quake.
