(Eagle News) – 2016 Summer Olympic silver medalist weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz took her first Southeast Asian Games gold on Monday, Dec. 2, at the women’s 55kg weightlifting event.

Diaz who is also an Airwoman Sergeant of the Philippine Air Force thanked all those who cheered for her during the SEA Games.

“Maraming maraming salamat sa support,” she said after the crowd cheered her on during the event.

Diaz also won the country’s first gold in the 2018 Asian Games in the Women’s 53 kilogram (kg) weightlifting event held in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The Philippines got a total of 38 gold medals at the end of Day 2 of the 30th SEA Games, maintaining its lead in the biennial multi-sports event.
