3.5-magnitude quake hits E. Samar

(Eagle News)–A 3.5-magnitude earthquake struck Eastern Samar early Sunday, May 26. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake hit 64 kilometers southeast of San Policarpo at 2:31 a.m. The depth of focus was 28 kilometers. No damage to property nor aftershocks were recorded.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake, of tectonic origin, struck 3 kilometers southwest of Santa Monica at 8:12 a.m. The depth of focus was 13 kilometers. No damage to property nor aftershocks were recorded.

Duterte sacks MWSS administrator Velasco

(Eagle News)–President Rodrigo Duterte has sacked Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System administrator Reynaldo Velasco. In a speech on Friday, May 24, Duterte said Velasco will  be replaced by retired general  Ricardo Morales. Velasco’s dismissal came almost two months after a water shortage  gripped Manila Water customers in Metro Manila and nearby provinces. Duterte had threatened to dismiss MWSS officials and end water concessionaires’ contracts if the water shortage was not resolved.
