5.7-magnitude earthquake strikes off Batanes

(Eagle News)–A 5.7-magnitude earthquake struck off Batanes on Sunday, August. 13 The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake hit at 9:43 a.m. The epicenter was 38 kilometers southwest of Sabtang. The depth of focus was 10 kilometers. The following instrumental intensity was reported: Intensity I – Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte No damage to property was reported. Aftershocks, however, are expected.

PHL employment rate in June at 95.5%: PSA

Based on data from the Philippine Statistics Authority, this is lower than the 97.7% employment rate reported the month before, but higher than the 94% reported also in June in 2022. Terminal 3 to experience power outage on Aug. 8 and 9 due to maintenance work: NAIA

Former Interior Undersecretary Martin Diño passes away

  (Eagle News)–Former Interior Undersecretary Martin Diño has passed away. His daughter Liza made the announcement on Facebook. She said her father died at 2:15 a.m. on August 8 surrounded by his family. In July, Liza announced her father had been diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer the year before. Diño served as DILG undersecretary under then-President Rodrigo Duterte’s administration. He was also the chair of the Violence Against Crime and Corruption.
