PHIVOLCS: Short-lived phreatic event monitored at Taal

(Eagle News)–A short-lived phreatic event was monitored at Taal on Thursday, May 16. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the Main Crater Observation Station monitored the event at the volcano, which remains on alert level 1, at 8:54 a.m. PHIVOLCS said the event lasted for three minutes and produced a 300-meter steam plume. In a separate advisory, PHIVOLCS said the  ban on the entry into the Permanent Danger Zone should remain in place. […]

‘Steam-driven eruption’ monitored at Taal: PHIVOLCS

Alert level 1 still in place (Eagle News)–A “weak phreatic or steam-driven eruption” was  monitored at Taal on Wednesday, May 8, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said. According to PHIVOLCS, it occurred between 8:27 a.m. and 8:31 a.m. The event at the volcano, which remains on alert level 1, produced “white steam-laden plumes” that rose 2000 meters above the main crater, PHIVOLCS said. It said the phreatic activity was “likely driven by the […]

PHIVOLCS: “Increased, continuous degassing activity” seen in Taal

(Eagle News) — The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology on Thursday, Nov. 9, issued an advisory on what it said was “increased and continuous degassing activity” seen in Taal Volcano. PHIVOLCS said 11,499 tons/day of volcanic sulfur dioxide or SO2 gas emission were measured from the Taal main crater, the highest recorded SO2 emission from Taal for the year. “Visual monitors show continued pronounced upwelling of volcanic fluids in the main crater that generated […]

Vog observed in Taal Volcano; alert level 1 still in place

(Eagle News)–Vog was observed in Taal  in the last 24 hours, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said. According to PHIVOLCS, also observed in the volcano, which remains on alert level 1, were 1141 tons per day of sulfur dioxide flux and an upwelling of hot volcanic fluids, particularly in the main crater lake. A 2000-meter-tall plume was also monitored, along with eight volcanic earthquakes including two volcanic tremors two to three minutes long. […]

PHIVOLCS: 154 volcanic tremors monitored in Taal; alert level 1 still in place

(Eagle News)–Over 100 volcanic tremors were monitored in Taal in the last 24 hours. Taal remains under an Alert Level 1. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the 154 tremors lasted for two to five minutes. Sulfur dioxide flux was at 6298 tons per day. PHIVOLCS said an upwelling of hot volcanic fluids in the lake was also monitored. A strong steam reaching 1,400 meters high was also monitored. In light of this, […]

51 volcanic earthquakes monitored at Taal in 24 hours; alert level 2 stays

(Eagle News) — Fifty-one volcanic earthquakes were monitored at Taal in 24 hours. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the earthquakes at the volcano, which remains on alert level 2, included 41 episodes of volcanic tremor with durations of one to four minutes. A weak emission of steam-laden plumes was also monitored at the main crater. According to PHIVOLCS, temperature highs of 71.8°C and a pH of 1.59 were last measured from the main […]

PHIVOLCS: 7 volcanic quakes monitored at Taal in 24 hours

(Eagle News)–Seven volcanic earthquakes were monitored at Taal in the last 24 hours. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the volcano remains on alert level 1, which means “sudden steam-driven or phreatic explosions, volcanic earthquakes, minor ashfall, and lethal accumulations or expulsions of volcanic gas” can occur and threaten areas within the Taal Volcano Island. PHIVOLCS reiterated its recommendation that entry into TVI, Taal’s Permanent Danger Zone or PDZ, especially the vicinities of […]

PHIVOLCS: 26 volcanic quakes, weak steaming monitored at Taal in 24 hours; alert level 1 stays

(Eagle News)–Twenty-six volcanic earthquakes were monitored at Taal within 24 hours, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said. According to PHIVOLCS, weak to moderate steaming was also observed from the vents on the main crater of the volcano, which remains on alert level 1. The steam, which rose  50 meters high before drifting northeast, southeast, and southwest, was also observed in fissure vents along the Daang Kastila trail. PHIVOLCS reminded the public that “sudden […]

Taal still on alert level 3; steam emissions, seismic activity continue

(Eagle News)–An alert level 3 remains hoisted over Taal as its steam emissions and seismic activity continue. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said activity in the main crater in the past 24 hours has been characterized by weak emission of steam-laden plumes rising 50 to 100 meters high. Sulfur dioxide emission was measured at an average of 67 tons per day on February 11. PHIVOLCS said Taal Volcano Network recorded 101 volcanic earthquakes […]
