(Eagle News)–Taal remains on alert level 4 as it continues to weakly emit steam-laden plumes 300 to 500 meters high since this morning. Alert Level 4 still hoisted over Taal as intense seismic activity continues

(Eagle News)–An alert level 4 remains hoisted over Taal, as the Taal Volcano Network recorded over  700 volcanic earthquakes in the volcano for the past 24 hours. In its 8 a.m. advisory, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the 787 volcanic earthquakes included 15 low-frequency earthquakes. 3.8-magnitude quake hits Batangas

(Eagle News)–A 3.8-magnitude earthquake struck Batangas on Sunday, Jan. 19. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake, which struck at 6:56 a.m., had its epicenter 5 kilometers southwest of Laurel. It had a depth of focus of 1 kilometer. An instrumental intensity I was felt in Tagaytay. No damage to property nor aftershocks were recorded.

(Eagle News)–A 3.2-magnitude earthquake struck Occidental Mindoro on Saturday, Jan. 18. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake, which struck at 10:16 a.m., had its epicenter 30 kilometers southwest of Paluan. It had a depth of focus of 6 kilometers. (Eagle News)–A 4.2-magnitude earthquake struck Occidental Mindoro on Friday, Jan. 17. The Philippine Institute Volcanology and Seismology said the quake, which struck at 11:36 p.m., had its epicenter 41 kilometers southwest of Paluan. It had a depth of focus of 22 kilometers. No damage to property nor aftershocks were recorded.

PHIVOLCS seeks help from int’l scientists, borrows infrared camera from US to view Taal’s main crater

Comelec suspends voter registration in Taal-affected areas

(Eagle News)–The Commission on Elections has suspended voter registration in areas affected by Taal’s volcanic activity. Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said the suspension applies to Agoncillo, Alitagtag, Balete, Laurel, Lemery, Mataasnakahoy, Sta. Teresita, Taal, Talisay  and San Nicolas. Jimenez said the suspension also applies to Tagaytay City, Amadeo, Alfonso, Indang and Silang in Cavite, and areas where roads are impassable due to volcanic ash. He said voters registration will resume  on Jan. 20.

3.9-magnitude quake hits Davao Occidental

(Eagle News)–A 3.9-magnitude earthquake struck Davao Occidental on Friday, Jan. 17. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake, which hit at 12:28 p.m., had its epicenter 56 kilometers southeast of Jose Abad Santos. It had a depth of focus of 178 kilometers. No damage to property nor aftershocks were recorded.  

New steaming fissure found on Taal’s northern slopes; fissures recently formed in Batangas bgys, widening
