PARIS, France (AFP) — A 60-year-old man has become the first French victim of the coronavirus in the country, the health ministry announced Wednesday. Palace thanks Japan for assistance to Filipinos on board Diamond Princess

(Eagle News) — The Palace on Wednesday, Feb. 26, thanked Japan for its help to Filipinos who were on board the Diamond Princess and who have now been repatriated. Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo issued the statement after the arrival of the 445 Filipinos who were quarantined in the Japan cruise ship off Yokohama. The quarantine was imposed after a passenger who had gone on a bus tour in Kyushu tested positive for the novel coronavirus. […]

CA confirms Avisado’s ad interim appointment as Budget chief

(Eagle News) — The Commission on Appointments has confirmed the ad interim appointment of Wendel Avisado as Budget secretary. The CA plenary made the confirmation after the CA committee on budget and management made the recommendation for the same. Avisado was designated to the post by President Rodrigo Duterte last year. He served as Davao administrator at a time President Duterte was mayor of the city.

CA panel recommends confirmation of Avisado as Budget secretary

(Eagle News) — A Commission on Appointments panel has recommended for confirmation the ad interim appointment of Wendel Avisado as Budget secretary. The recommendation was done by the CA’s committee on budget and management in a hearing on Wednesday, Feb. 26. The recommendation will be submitted to the plenary for approval. Avisado was designated to the post by President Rodrigo Duterte last year.

4.0-magnitude quake hits Zamboanga del Norte

(Eagle News)–A 4.0-magnitude earthquake struck Zamboanga del Norte on Wednesday, Feb. 26. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake, which struck at 5:38 a.m., had its epicenter 44 kilometers southwest of Siocon. Depth of focus was one kilometer. An instrumental intensity I was recorded in Zamboanga City. No damage to property nor aftershocks were recorded.

32 volcanic earthquakes recorded as Taal remains on alert level 2

(Eagle News)–The Taal Volcano Network has recorded 32 volcanic earthquakes at Taal, which remains on alert level 2. Cloudy skies, isolated rains forecast in parts of PHL

(Eagle News)–Cloudy skies and rains are expected in parts of the country today. The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers as the easterlies affect the eastern section of the country. Visayas and Mindanao will have partly cloudy to  cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms. Flashfloods or thunderstorms are possible.
