Task force to add more mobile checkpoints as NCR transitions into GCQ area

(Eagle News)–The Philippine National Police Joint Task Force COVID Shield will add additional mobile checkpoints as Metro Manila transitions into a general community quarantine area starting June 1.

Police Lieutenant General Guillermo Eleazar said in a press briefing those manning the checkpoints can check inside vehicles.

“Basically from the point of view of law enforcement, alam po natin na mas marami nang industries ang allowed to operate, consequently mas maraming tao ang lalabas na authorized at mga sasakyan lalo na dito sa mga highly-urbanized areas,” he said.

He reminded people to stay at home as much as possible and go out only for valid reasons, noting that curfews remain in place.

President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday approved the recommendation of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases for some restrictions to be eased in Metro Manila after May 31.

The following areas will also be GCQ areas starting June 1 for 15 days:

  • Entire Region 2 (Cagayan, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, Santiago City)
  • Entire Region 3 (Aurora, Bataan, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Tarlac)
  • Entire Region 4-A (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon, Lucena City)
  • Albay
  • Pangasinan
  • Davao City

On Thursday, the country reported 539 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total to 15,588.

Recoveries have reached 3,598, while 921 have died of the disease.
