4.1-magnitude quake strikes off Davao Occidental

(Eagle News)–A 4.1-magnitude earthquake struck off Davao Occidental on Tuesday, Aug. 25. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake, which hit at 4:43 a.m, had its epicenter 442 kilometers southeast of Sarangani. It depth was 85 kilometers, and it was of tectonic origin. No damage to property nor aftershocks were recorded.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake, which struck at 8:24 a.m., had its epicenter 42 kilometers northeast of Baganga. 3.6-magnitude quake hits Masbate

(Eagle News)–A 3.6-magnitude earthquake struck off Masbate today. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake, which hit at 6:28 a.m., was an aftershock of the 6.6-magnitude earthquake in Cataingan on Aug. 18. Sunday’s quake had its epicenter 9 kilometers northeast of Cataingan, and a depth of 16 kilometers. It was of tectonic origin. No damage to property nor aftershocks were recorded.  

3.7-magnitude quake strikes off Batanes early Saturday

(Eagle News)–A 3.7-magnitude earthquake struck off Batanes early Saturday, Aug. 22. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake, which hit at 4:17 a.m., had its epicenter 65 kilometers southeast of Sabtang. It had a depth of one kilometer. PHIVOLCS said the quake was of tectonic origin. No damage to property nor aftershocks were recorded.

5.2-magnitude aftershock hits Masbate early Wednesday

(Eagle News)–A 5.2-magnitude aftershock struck Masbate early Wednesday morning. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the earthquake, which was tectonic in origin, hit 12 kilometers southeast of Cataingan at 5:50 a.m. It had a depth of six kilometers. No damage to property was expected but aftershocks were. Earlier, PHIVOLCS had said a strong aftershock of the 6.6-magnitude earthquake that struck Cataingan on Tuesday, Aug. 18, was possible.

(Eagle News)–A 5.1-magnitude earthquake struck off Cagayan on Thursday, Aug. 13. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake, which struck at 6:32 a.m., had its epicenter 73 kilometers northwest of Calayan. It was of tectonic origin, and had a depth of 40 kilometers. Damage to property was not expected but aftershocks were.

5.5-magnitude quake strikes off Batanes

(Eagle News)–A 5.5-magnitude earthquake struck off Batanes on Thursday, Aug. 13. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake, which hit at 6:32 a.m., had its epicenter 49 kilometers southwest of Sabtang. The earthquake was of tectonic origin, and  had a depth of 14 kilometers. No damage to property was expected but aftershocks were.

6.0 magnitude quake strikes off Tanzania: USGS

NAIROBI, Kenya (AFP) — A shallow 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck southeast of the Tanzanian financial centre of Dar es Salaam late Wednesday, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said. The offshore quake struck at a depth of 15.5 kilometers (9.6 miles) just after 8 pm (1700 GMT) local time. The epicenter was 66 kilometers southeast of Vikindu, USGS said. Google turning smartphones into earthquake detectors

SAN FRANCISCO, United States (AFP) — Google added an earthquake alert system in California on Tuesday, saying it is working on letting Android-powered smartphones double as tremor detectors.
