Suspicious box in Edsa-Shaw underpass prompts police lockdown; box found to contain only styro

(Eagle News)–The police on Friday, Aug. 16, were forced to impose a temporary lockdown on the northbound and southbound lanes of the Edsa Shaw underpass after the presence of a suspicious box was reported to them. US embassy, affiliated offices closed on Wednesday, Aug. 21

(Eagle News)–The United States embassy will be closed on Wednesday, Aug. 21. The embassy said its affiliated offices will also be closed on that day, in observance of Ninoy Aquino Day, a national non-working holiday. Operations at the embassy and their affiliated offices will resume on Thursday, Aug. 22, the embassy said.

Cancelled flights for Friday, Aug. 16

(Eagle News)–Several flights for Friday, Aug. 16, have been cancelled, the Manila International Airport Authority said. According to MIAA, the following flights were cancelled due to “operational reasons.” Qantas QF-019-Sydney-Manila QF-020-Manila-Sydney MIAA said all passengers have been re-accommodated to alternate flights.

De Lima proposes creation of Philippine Road Safety Institute

MMDA lifts number-coding scheme for today, Aug. 12

(Eagle News)–The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority has lifted the number-coding scheme today. The MMDA made the confirmation in responding to the inquiries of motorists on its official Twitter account. The Palace declared today a regular holiday in celebration of the Muslims’ Eid’l Adha. With the MMDA’s confirmation, vehicles whose plate numbers end in 1 and 2 are  allowed to ply Metro Manila streets from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Number-coding scheme lifted effective 3 p.m. today

(Eagle News)–The number-coding scheme is lifted effective 3 p.m. today, Aug. 9. The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority made the announcement via Twitter, amid the inclement weather brought about by an enhanced southwest monsoon. Earlier, the Palace suspended work in government offices and classes in Metro Manila. The memorandum signed by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea said the suspension was effective 3 p.m. The MMDA said the number-coding scheme, however, still applies in Makati.

(Eagle News)–A heavy rainfall warning has been hoisted over Metro Manila and nearby areas. The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said apart from Metro Manila, a yellow alert has been hoisted over Zambales, Bataan, and Cavite.
