(Eagle News)–The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration is monitoring an active tropical cyclone outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility. PAGASA said tropical storm “Matmo” is located 895 kilometers west of southern Luzon, packing maximum sustained winds of 65 kph and gustiness of up to 80 kph. It is moving northwest at 20 kph. (Eagle News)–Classes were suspended in some areas on Wednesday, Oct. 30, after a 6.6-magnitude earthquake hit Mindanao. Below is a list: Digos, Davao del Sur – all levels Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur – all levels Island Garden of Samal, Davao del Norte – All levels Koronadal, South Cotabato – all levels At least six people were killed and several were injured after the quake, which hit days after a 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck the area.

Thunderstorm advisory hoisted over M. Manila, other areas

(Eagle News)–A thunderstorm advisory has been hoisted over Metro Manila. The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said moderate to heavy rainshowers with lightning and strong winds are also expected over Bulacan, Laguna and Rizal within the next two hours. Visiting privileges of inmates in Bilibid maximum compound restored

(Eagle News)–Jail authorities have announced the restoration of visiting privileges for inmates in the New Bilibid Prison’s maximum security compound. In an announcement, the Bureau of Corrections said these will resume on Wednesday, Oct. 30. No visitation is, however, allowed  during Mondays and Tuesdays. NDRRMC: At least one dead, several hurt in 6.6-magnitude Cotabato quake

(Eagle News)–At least one person died and several were injured after a 6.6-magnitude earthquake struck Cotabato on Tuesday, Oct. 29. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office identified the fatality as Nestor Narciso, 66, of Koronadal City. PHIVOLCS: No tsunami threat following 6.6-magnitude quake in Cotabato

(Eagle News)–There is no tsunami threat to the Philippines, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said. PHIVOLCS issued the advisory after a 6.6-magnitude quake hit Tulunan, Cotabato at 9:04 a.m. The quake took place days after a 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck the province. That earthquake left at least five people dead and several injured. According to PHIVOLCS, Tuesday’s earthquake was the same as the 6.3-magnitude one. “Ang epicenter nito ay sa lupa,” PHIVOLCS said.
