#WalangPasok: Classes in six public schools in Manila, Pasay, Pasig suspended for SEA Games

(Eagle News)–The Department of Education has approved the suspension of classes in six public schools in Metro Manila for the Southeast Asian Games.

In a Nov. 12 memorandum, Education Secretary Leonor Briones said the suspension of classes in the Aurora A. Quezon Elementary School in Manila; Gotamco Elementary School, Andres Bonifacio Elementary School, and Rafael Palma Elementary School in Pasay; and in Oranbo Elementary School and Bagong Ilog Elementary School in Pasig from December 2 to 6 was because they would serve as billeting quarters of 296 drivers for the sports event.

Briones said the suspension was upon the request of Ramon Suzara, chief operating officer of the Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee.

The suspension of classes  in private schools, however, was left to the discretion of their management.

“The (DepEd) supports the Philippines’ hosting of the 30th SEA Games and will extend its  assistance to the PHISGOC within the limits of our resources, governing laws and regulations,” Briones said.
