(Eagle News) — Senators-elect Imee Marcos, Francis Tolentino and Pia Cayetano are being considered as chair of the ways and means committee of the next Senate.
Senator Joel Villanueva said in an interview over ANC on Thursday, June 6, that these were the names that were being floated during a meeting of incoming and incumbent senators in Senator Manny Pacquiao’s residence in Makati on Wednesday night.
In a previous interview, Marcos said she might refuse if the post was offered to her because she didn’t think she fit the position.
“I don’t think I’m bagay actually. Although I’ve been talking about 12 percent VAT (value-added tax) and bringing it down to get prices down, hindi ako marunong masyado sa tax and I have a knee-jerk reaction on any increases on tobacco obviously, Ilocana so baka hindi ako good choice dyan,” Marcos had said.
She said she preferred the chairmanship of the committee on local government, currently headed by Senator Sonny Angara, and the committee on social justice, welfare and rural development, currently chaired by detained Senator Leila de Lima.
Meanwhile, Sotto said Senator-elect Bong Go would get the chairmanship of the committee on health and the committee on urban planning, housing, and resettlement, which are currently chaired by Senator JV Ejercito, who failed in his reelection bid.
