(Eagle News) — A veteran journalist was among the six killed when a man went amuck in a Pasay condominium on Tuesday night.

In a radio interview, Ben Cal said that a friend, Joel Palacios, was one of those who died when Robert Garan went on a murderous frenzy in the Central Park condominium around 6 p.m.

“Pati misis niya nasaksak…Ngayon ‘yun pala nagjo-jogging at may kasama siya. So ‘yung nangyari ‘yung nag-amok, nakita si Joel. Sinasaksak ngayon. So pati siya nasaksak rin pero naka-survive. Pero si Joel talagang namatay,” Cal said.

Palacios’ wife is recuperating in the hospital.

Among the fatalities were Garan’s girlfriend Emelyn Sagun,  whom he stabbed after having a fight with, and pushed  down the stairs.

In footage from a closed-circuit television camera in the condominium, Sagun was seen running away from Garan, who was running after her and was carrying a knife.

Also dead was a small girl whom Garan only met in a hallway.

The police cornered the suspect on the 22nd floor and shot him dead.

Palacios worked for the Associated Press and Manila Standard.

He was also affiliated with the Social Security System before he died.
