UST Civil Law dean Divina expresses elation over DOJ dismissal of charges vs him in connection with Castillo fatal hazing

(Eagle News) –University of Sto. Tomas Civil Law Dean Nilo Divina on Thursday expressed elation over the dismissal of charges filed against him in connection with the death of UST law student Horacio Castillo III.

In a statement posted on The Varsitarian’s official Twitter account, Divina said he was “very happy and relieved to finally be cleared of any wrongdoing.”

“I have always maintained my full innocence throughout this unfortunate incident, and thankfully this has now been established beyond question,” he said.

He also thanked his colleagues and clients for their “unwavering support” and “unflinching trust” in him.

“I share with you this vindication against the attempt to tarnish my reputation that I have painstakingly built and safeguarded throughout the years,” he said.

He said he also “continue(s) to pray for justice for Atio and have full faith in our legal system.”

Apart from Divina, the charges against Arthur Capili in his capacity as faculty secretary were dismissed by the Department of Justice for insufficiency of evidence.

The DOJ instead indicted 11 for the death of the then-UST law freshman.

Castillo died due to trauma resulting from severe injuries sustained from hazing rites conducted by the Aegis Juris fraternity.
