UP Diliman: One frat member implicated in hazing incident dies

(Eagle News)–One of the members of the Sigma Rho fraternity who was implicated in a hazing incident has died, the University of the Philippines said.

In connection with this, the  Office of the Chancellor in UP Diliman urged all students, faculty and staff and other concerned parties to “stop posting and forwarding social media messages” related to the death of the frat member who was not identified.

“Let us do this out of decency and respect for the privacy of the family,” the office said.

According to the office, “sensationalism is itself a form of violent assault and is not a solution to the fraternity culture of violence.”

The office has said administrative action was initiated immediately after the online exposé of the alleged hazing incident.

One post showed a picture of arms with bruises allegedly sustained during the hazing rites.

Senator Sherwin Gatchalian has also urged UP to suspend the entire fraternity following the exposé.
