Typhoon Butchoy weakens while crossing southern Taiwan

QUEZON City, Philippines (Eagle News) — Typhoon “Butchoy” has further weakened while crossing southern Taiwan.

According to the latest bulletin of weather state bureau Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the eye of typhoon Butchoy was located at 260 kilometers northwest of Itbayat, Batanes.

It has a maximum sustained wind of 165 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 200 kph.

It is forecast to move northwest at 13 kph.

Tropical cyclone warning signal number one is still up in Batanes Group of Islands while warning signals elsewhere are now lifted.

Fisher folk are still advised not to venture out over the southern and western seaboards of Luzon.

Meanwhile, Butchoy will enhance the southwest monsoon which will continue to bring moderate to occasionally heavy rains over the provinces of Zambales, Bataan, Batangas, Cavite and Mindoro.
