(Eagle News)– Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II revealed on Monday (September 19) that two more high profile inmates will testify on Senator Leila De Lima’s alleged involvement in the illegal drug trade inside New Bilibid Prison (NBP).

According to Aguirre, the inmates will reveal their affidavits detailing their knowledge on De Lima’s entanglement in the narcotics mess.

“We will be presenting at least 30 witnesses and resource persons on Day 1 alone to establish the why, the how, the where, the when and most importantly, the who, and the how much on the proliferation of prohibited drugs in our prisons,” Aguirre said in a press conference.

The inmates are expected to appear at the House inquiry scheduled on Tuesday (September 20).

Aguirre added that witnesses who agreed to testify have been given immunity from suit.

“Whatever they will say, hindi sila maaaring idemanda. It could not be used against them,” Aguirre assured.

At least eight high-profile prisoners, including Herbert Colangco and convicted kidnapper Noel Martinez, were already moved to the facility under by the Intelligence Service of the AFP (ISAFP) to ensure their safety.

On Sunday, De Lima stressed that she would not attend the hearing and “not even send any representative, lawyer or even an observer.”
