Two killed in shooting incident in National Center for Mental Health

(Eagle News)–Two people, including a psychiatric patient, were killed in a shooting incident in the National Center for Mental Health in Mandaluyong on Thursday, May 9.

Hospital authorities did not reveal the identities of those killed in the incident past 2 p.m., citing the “sensitivities of the issue involving the patient.”

Police reports said, however, that apart from the patient, who has a pending case, killed was his wife.

The suspect was reportedly the couple’s grandfather.

“We are saddened by the tragic event that unfolded at the (NCMH) and we offer our condolences to the family of the victims,” the center said.

According to the NCMH, the police, in coordination with the center, was already conducting a probe into the matter.

“The NCMH is committed to ensuring the safety of its patients and staff and is taking measures to tighten security at the hospital,” the center said, noting that no other patients or staff members were hurt or involved in the incident.

The NCMH said it was “in full operation and functioning normally.”
