TS “Siony” maintains strength as it accelerates over W. PHL Sea

(Eagle News)–Tropical Storm “Siony” has maintained its strength as it accelerated west-northwest over the West Philippine Sea.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said “Siony” was estimated 620 km east of Aparri, Cagayan, packing  maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph.

It is moving west northwest at 40 kph, and is likely to remain within the tropical storm category within the next 36 to 48 hours.

PAGASA said the center of Tropical Storm “Siony” is forecast to continue moving west-northwest or northwest today until tonight before it slows down.

It is expected to become  almost stationary tomorrow morning until Wednesday morning.

Afterwards, “Siony” will begin moving west-southwest or west toward extreme Northern Luzon.

Today, PAGASA said the trough of tropical storm “Siony” will bring light to moderate with at times heavy rains over Batanes, Cagayan, and Isabela.
