To stop some from swimming, NCRPO puts up barricade in vicinity of Manila Bay

Volunteers and authorities sweep trash in the Manila Bay area as part of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources’ initiative.

(Eagle News)–National Capital Region Police Office chief Guillermo Eleazar on Saturday, Feb. 9, said they have put up a barricade in the Baywalk area to ensure no one swims in the waters of Manila Bay.

In an interview over radio dzbb, Eleazar said that while the bay area was a big improvement, the waters of the bay remain “polluted.”

He also reminded the public there was an existing ordinance that bans people from swimming in the bay.

“Makikita pa rin ang view … hindi nga lang sila makapunta sa dalampasigan at mag-swimming,” he said.

The Manila Bay cleanup is an initiative of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

Netizens have praised the results of the ongoing initiative, saying trash was no longer visible in the area.

Authorities said, however, that it will take time before the bay is completely cleaned.
