Other senators retain leadership posts

(Eagle News)–Senator Tito Sotto was reelected the Senate president of the 18th Congress on Monday, July 22.

Sotto’s reelection during the first regular session of the Senate under the 18th Congress had been expected, even after some newly elected senators had touted the topnotcher of the May 13 Senate elections, Senator Cynthia Villar, as the  next Senate president.

He also welcomed young individuals who were entering politics, and who have shown that poverty was not a hindrance to anything.

“Millenials have seized the powers of social media,” he added.

Also reelected to Senate leadership posts were the following:

Senator Ralph Recto as Senate president pro-tempore

Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri as majority leader and rules committee chair

Senator Franklin Drilon as minority leader

Myra Villarica was reelected Senate secretary, and  Major General Edgardo Rene Samonte was named  Senate Sergeant-at-Arms.

Samonte replaced Jose Balajadia who had resigned before passing away recently.
