TD “Samuel” makes landfall over Iloilo

May exit PAR between tomorrow evening and Friday morning, PAGASA says

(Eagle News) — Tropical Depression “Samuel” has made landfall over Iloilo province, and may exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility between tomorrow evening and Friday morning the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.

PAGASA said “Samuel” made landfall over Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 21.

As of 10 a.m., it said  the center of the tropical depression was so far in the vicinity of Leganes, Iloilo,  packing maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 65 kilometers per hour.

“Samuel” is moving west southwest at 40 kilometers per hour, PAGASA said.

Signal Number 1 is hoisted over Romblon, southern Oriental Mindoro, southern Occidental Mindoro, Palawan including Calamian and Cuyo groups of islands, Northern Cebu, northern Negros Occidental, Guimaras, Iloilo, Capiz, Aklan, and Antique.

PAGASA said moderate to heavy rains which may trigger flooding and landslides are expected over MIMAROPA, CALABARZON, Western Visayas, Aurora, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur and Catanduanes.

“Fisherfolk and those with small seacraft are advised not to venture out over the areas under (Signal Number 1), as well as the northern and eastern seaboards of Luzon,” PAGASA said.

The Signal Number 1 hoisted over Masbate (including Ticao island), Biliran and Leyte has, on the other hand, been lifted.
