TD “Hanna” maintains its strength; monsoon rains to prevail

(Eagle News)–Tropical Depression “Hanna”  maintained its strength on Sunday, Aug. 4, as it moved north northwestward.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said between today and Tuesday morning, moderate to heavy monsoon rains will still be experienced over Metro Manila, Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, Pampanga, Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite, Batangas, Laguna, Mindoro provinces, northern portions of Palawan (including Calamian and Cuyo Islands), Romblon, Aklan, and Antique, with “Hanna” 1,070 km east of Infanta, Quezon.

Hanna is packing maximum winds of up to 55 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 70 km/h, as it moved north northwest at 15 km/h.

PAGASA said cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms will be experienced over Cordillera Administrative Region, Bicol Region, Zamboanga Peninsula, Quezon, and the rest of Ilocos Region, Central Luzon and Visayas.

Residents in these areas, especially those living in areas identified to be highly or very highly susceptible to floods and rain-induced landslides, are advised to take precautionary measures, coordinate with local disaster risk reduction and management offices, and continue monitoring for updates, the weather bureau said.

PAGASA said  fisherfolk and those with small seacraft are advised not to venture out over the western seaboards of Northern and Central Luzon, the seaboards of Southern Luzon and Visayas, and the eastern seaboard of Mindanao due to “potentially rough sea conditions.”

Hanna is expected to be out of the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Friday.
