(Eagle News)-Taal Volcano spewed lava fountains early Monday, Jan. 13, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said.
PHIVOLCS said the event took place at 3:20 a.m.
According to the United States Geological Survey, lava fountains range from about 10 to 100 meters in height, but can occasionally reach more than 500 m.
Lava fountains, the USGS said, erupt when water gains access to the tube in a confined space.
PHIVOLCS has raised an alert level 4 over Taal, which means an explosive eruption is imminent.
PHIVOLCS said ashfall has reached several areas, including parts of Metro Manila.
The Palace has declared a suspension of government work and classes in Metro Manioa, Calabarzon and Central Luzon.
