SWS: 38 percent of Filipinos believe their lives improved in last 12 months

(Eagle News)–Thirty-eight percent of Filipinos believe their lives improved in the last 12 months, a Social Weather Stations survey found.

According to the survey conducted from March 28 to 31, this translates to a net  gainers score of +17, classified by SWS as very high.

“The net gainers score continues to improve for two quarters in a row after dropping to -2 (fair) in September 2018. It went up to +12 (very high) in December 2018 and up again to +17 (very high) in March 2019,” the SWS said.

The survey also found that  50% expect  their personal quality of life to improve in the next 12 months and 4% expect it to get worse.

This translates to a net personal optimists score of +47, classified by SWS as excellent.

According to the SWS, this is the second  consecutive quarter the net optimists score was at an excellent.

It said the  score was also 7 points higher than the +40 in December 2018.

“The last  time it remained excellent in consecutive quarters was the period between June 2017 to June 2018. It dipped to high +27 in September 2018 before going back up to within excellent range in December 2018,” the pollster said.

Based on the survey, almost 50 percent, or 45 percent, of adults were optimistic about the  Philippine economy, saying it will improve in the next 12 months.

Ten percent, on the other hand, are pessimistic about the economy, translating to a net economic optimists score of +35, classified as excellent.

“Net economic optimism refers to expectations about the general Philippine economy, and is different from net personal optimism which refers to expectations in personal quality of life,” the SWS said.

The score is 3 points above the +32 (excellent) in December 2018, and is the highest since the +42 (excellent) in December 2017, the SWS said.
