(Eagle News)–Some inmates from jail facilities under the Bureau of Corrections are being tapped to kill people outside, Senate President Tito Sotto said.

Sotto said he received the information as a joint Senate panel conducts a probe into the problems in BuCor, following the release of convicts of heinous crimes under the Good Conduct Time Allowance law.

During the probe, witness Yolanda Camelon testified she paid P50,000 to several BuCor personnel for the release of her partner under the GCTA law that reduces the sentence of inmates for good conduct.

Inmate and former Valencia, Bukidnon Mayor Jose Galario Jr. also said some convicts paid to be allowed to stay at the New Bilibid Prison hospital to be out of prison for a time.

Apart from these, former Criminal Investigation and Detection Group chief Benjamin Magalong said “all roads practically lead to Bilibid” where the illegal drug trade is concerned.

Magalong had said police officials outside were also involved in the recycling of illegal drugs, and would reveal the same in an executive session.

Sotto said the names of these police officials were already submitted to Senator Richard Gordon, chair of the Senate justice  and human rights panel.

He said he had yet to consult members of the joint panel on whether to divulge the names in public or just submit a report to the Palace. With a report from Meanne Corvera
