Signal No. 1 raised over Eastern Samar, parts of Mindanao due to TD “Jolina”

(Eagle News) — Signal No. 1 has been raised over Eastern Samar with the low pressure area off Surigao del Norte developing into a tropical depression.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration, also under Signal No. 1 due to Tropical Depression “Jolina” are the following areas in Mindanao:

  • Dinagat Islands
  • Siargao Islands
  • Bucas Grande Islands

So far, “Jolina” is located 300 km east southeast of Guiuan, Eastern Samar or 310 km east of Surigao City, Surigao del Norte, packing maximum sustained winds of 45 kph  near the center and a gustiness of up to 55 kph.

“Jolina” is now moving west southwestward at 20 kph.

In the next 24 hours, “Jolina” may bring moderate to heavy rains over Eastern Samar, Dinagat Islands, and Surigao del Norte including Siargao and Bucas Grande Islands.

Strong winds (strong breeze to near gale conditions) with occasional gusts will also be experienced in areas where the tropical cyclone signal no. 1 is in effect.

“Jolina” is forecast to remain a tropical depression until its potential landfall over Northern Luzon, when it is forecast to weaken into a low pressure area.
