Sereno camp: Calida admission it was he who retrieved Sereno SALNs means quo warranto petition “baseless”

(Eagle News)—-The camp of Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno said Solicitor General Jose Calida only “destroyed” his quo warranto petition when he said it was he who recovered eight of her Statements of Assets and Liabilities and Net Worth and not the Chief Justice.

“His submission is an admission that his petition is baseless..The recovery of most of the SALNs destroys the SolGen’s main argument that the Chief Justice should be removed from office on ground that she failed to file her SALNs and submit them to the JBC,” Josa Deinla, one of Sereno’s spokespersons, said.

Sereno was referring to Calida’s statement it was he who recovered copies of Sereno’s SALNs in 1985, 1990, 1991, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996 and 1997 and submitted these to the Supreme Court.

Calida made the statement after Sereno’s other spokesperson, Jojo Lacanilao, said the Chief Justice only recently recovered eight of her SALNs and submitted these.

Even then, Deinla reiterated that it was Sereno who indeed retrieved the copies of the SALNs, noting that the Chief Justice even informed the Supreme Court about the retrieval of “most” of the documents in her comment filed March 19.

Calida, she said, submitted the eight SALNs he supposedly retrieved on March 27, 2018.

The petition seeks to have Sereno’s appointment as Chief Justice nullified.

She is also facing an impeachment complaint.
