Senator Miriam Santiago announces presidential bid

Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago said she will run for president in the 2016 elections. She added that her running mate is someone who has already declared his or her candidacy.

Santiago said the Philippines will be a “much better country” if she will become president in the “near future.”

“Today, this country suffers from the malaise of plunder. Plunder is when you look at a person and the person looks at you and you feel like eating each other up. It’s like cancer,” “the one thing bad about cancer is it tends to eat up its neighbor,” Santiago said.

Santiago hinted that her running mate is someone who already declared his intention to run for vice president. However, she declined to name him.

“He has already announced. We will be running together. I cannot give the answer because his wife might scold him,” the Senator added.

She declared her candidacy during the book launch of her book, stupid is forever more, which was released July 15.

“I will definitely run I’ve already gotten over my cancer and there’s nothing left to do. I can apply for a job abroad like the one I lost because of my cancer but I think since I have served the government from the very beginning I will end my career there,” she said. (Eagle News Service)
