Senator De Lima on her impending arrest: “Put me in a safe and secure area”

QUEZON City, Philippines (Eagle News)  — Senator Leila De Lima appealed to the government to place her in a “safe and secure” jail if she is arrested, saying that she feared she would be killed while in prison.

De Lima claimed many inmates met their demise while in prison under the Duterte administration, so she is appealing that she would not have a similar fate.

The senator said she is ready for her impending arrest, and that she would “not physically resist.”

“Wala naman akong magagawa, I cannot physically resist, but I am morally and psychologically resisting. What can I do? Hindi ako tatakas, hindi ako magtatago. Hindi ako magpupunta sa hospital, hindi ako mag wheelchair, neckbrace, wala akong gagawin na ganung istilo,” De Lima said.

“Sakali pong mangyari, God forbid, sana ilagay ako sa isang lugar na safe and secure ako. Maraming nangyayari sa mga selda. What is another case of EJK?” she said.

Members of the Cabinet of former President Benigno Aquino went to the Senate to show their support for Senator Leila De Lima who herself was a former Aquino cabinet member.

They are former Social Welfare and Development Secretary Dinky Soliman, OPAP Secretary Teresita Deles, former Commission on Filipinos Overseas Chair Imelda Nicolas, and Civil Service Commission Chair Karina David.

“We are women standing by Sen. de Lima and calling on all fair-minded Filipinos to uphold the truth and justice and dignity of women. Let us not allow the manipulation of systems that should have been dispensed fairly. No to the arrest of Senator Leila de Lima,” David said.
