Senate approves on third and final reading measure providing mandatory PhilHealth coverage to PWDs

(Eagle News)–The Senate on Monday, July 30, approved on third and final reading a measure providing PhilHealth coverage to Persons With Disabilities.

In a statement, Senator Risa Hontiveros, author of the bill, said the approval of Senate Bill No. 1391, which amended Republic Act No. 7277 or the “Magna Carta for Disabled Persons,” was “a big step towards our dream of universal health care for all Filipinos.”

“As we strive for universal health care, this measure will help ensure that no one will be left behind,” Hontiveros said.

Under the proposed law, the government will shoulder the premium contributions of PWDs.

The funds from the government will be sourced from sin tax collection.
