Sen. Sotto: We respect House’s show cause order on De Lima

(Eagle News)– Senate Majority Leader Vicente Sotto III on Tuesday (November 29) said leaders of both legislative chambers met Monday night to discuss conditions amid the issuance of show cause order against Senator Leila De Lima.

“We will respect any moves of their committees for show cause order as long as it is not directed towards the Senate itself,” said Sotto.

“It will be up to Sen. De Lima if she will answer or not,” Sotto said.

Sotto added the House agreed not to issue any arrest warrant against De Lima if she ignores the show cause.

“They will instead ask us to discipline our own. That was a consensus reached between us leaders last night,” he said.

Sotto also said the Senate would take action on any complaints that the House would file with the Senate ethics committee.

On Monday, De Lima said she won’t honor any show cause order to be issued by the House justice committee, stressing that the House probe is just a “kangaroo court”.

De Lima however admitted ‘advising’ Dayan not to attend the House proceedings, explaining that in doing so, she was “obstructing persecution.”

De Lima has repeatedly denied any involvement in the illegal drug trade.
