(Eagle News) — The Supreme Court on Tuesday, Dec. 4, came up with its own list of recommended candidates for the post of associate justice of the High Court.
Included in the list submitted to the Judicial and Bar Council were Court of Appeals Justice Manuel Barrios, with seven votes; Justice Ramon Bato, Jr., with six votes; Justice Ramon Garcia, also with six votes; and SC Court Administrator Jose Midas Marquez, also with six votes.
The SC recommended the four to the post to be left vacant by SC Associate Justice Noel J. Tijam, after en banc deliberations.
Tijam will compulsorily retire on January 5, 2019.
“The vote of the justices is purely recommendatory. The JBC will come up with the official shortlist from which the President will make his appointment,” the SC stressed.
