SC reverses Comelec ruling disqualifying Camarines Norte bet from May gubernatorial race

(Eagle News)–The Supreme Court has reversed a Commission on Elections ruling disqualifying Edgardo Tallado from running for governor of Camarines Norte during the May elections.

Voting 8-6, the en banc approved Tallado’s petition assailing his disqualification in a session held on Sept. 10.

Concurring with Chief Justice Lucas Bersamin, who penned the decision, were  Associate Justices Diosdado Peralta, Alexander Gesmundo, Andres Reyes, Jr., Jose Reyes, Jr., Amy  Lazaro-Javier, Henry Jean Paul B. Inting, and Rodil  Zalameda.

Justices Francis  Jardeleza, Antonio Carpio, Estela Perlas-Bernabe, Marvic Leonen, Alfredo Benjamin Caguioa, and Rosmari Carandang dissented.

Tallado was allowed to run in the May polls after the SC issued a status quo ante order when he elevated his case there.

Tallado beat rival Cathy Barcelona-Reyes in the recent elections.
