SC announces start of construction of its new complex in Taguig

Chief Justice Lucas Bersamin on Tuesday, Dec. 18, led the signing of the absolute deed of sale for the purchase of the Taguig property where the High Court’s new complex will stand./SC/

(Eagle News) –The Supreme Court announced on Tuesday, Dec. 18, the start of construction of what will be its new complex in Taguig City, following the official turnover of the purchased property by its previous owner.

In a statement, the SC said the signing of the deed of absolute sale with officials of the Bases Conversion Development Authority  took place with Bersamin himself handing over to BCDA President and Chief Executive Officer Vivencio B. Dizon the check amounting to P1,044,021,642.86 as full payment for the purchase of the 21,463 sq.m. piece of land.

The property is located at the former Philippine Army Security Escort Group Area in Fort Bonifacio.

“We are a step closer to finally realizing our common dream to have a place we can call our own. This milestone is made possible by the sustained collaboration and consultation among the parties present today,” Bersamin said.

The SC building in Padre Faura, Manila is owned by the University of the Philippines.

The SC said Bersamin and Dizon  also signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Public Works Secretary Mark Villar for the “construction of the Access Road going to C5, and another MOA with Megaworld Senior Vice President Kevin Andrew Tan relative to the access road from the SC property to Campus Avenue in the McKinley Area.”

“We understand that there are still so many things to be done and a lot of challenges to be hurdled. Nevertheless, with your continued cooperation and unwavering support, we will one day soon see all the hard work come to fruition,” Bersamin said, commending the working committee led by Associate Justice Estela Perlas-Bernabe in charge of the project.

Also present in the signing ceremonies at the SC were Senior Associate Justice Antonio T. Carpio, Justice Noel Gimenez Tijam, Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo, Justice Rosmari D. Carandang, Court Administrator Jose Midas P. Marquez, Assistant Court Administrator Maria Regina Adoracion Filomena M. Ignacio, En Banc Clerk of Court Atty. Edgar O. Aricheta and Chief Administrative Officer Maria Carina M. Cunanan, among others.
