MANILA, Philippines (Eagle News) — Former Interior Secretary Mar Roxas slammed news reports linking him to the police generals allegedly involved in illegal drug trade.

In a statement, Roxas said “some online sites and traditional media outlets” had identified particular cops as “Roxas Generals,” insinuating that they had campaigned for the LP candidate in the 2016 elections even if they were still on active duty.

“Despite lacking any clear basis, the insinuation is that these individuals campaigned for me in the last election. To be clear: There are no roxas generals,” Roxas said.

He added that his professional working relationship with some of these generals started when he took over the helm of DILG, and ended when he tendered his resignation in 2015.

Police and military generals are barred from partisan political activity.
