Roque: “Pangasinan Group” behind sorry state of MRT, according to two sources

(Eagle News) –Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque on Thursday said two people have come forward to detail what they said were the corrupt activities of a group that led to the sorry state of the Metro Rail Transit.

In a press conference, Roque said according to the sources who were engaged in the operations of the MRT 3, the Pangasinan Group siphoned off funds from the P3.8 billion the maintenance contract with Busan Universal Rail Inc. was worth.

In the end, Roque said only a third of the amount was left for maintenance funds, according to the sources.

He said he has “documentary evidence” to back this up, but before making this public, he said he would first “give notice” to the National Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Justice.

“It is now in the process of investigation, and this is what I promised to do..But I promised that this will be a continuing activity that we will have here, and which is dissecting the plunder of MRT3,” he said.

A plunder complaint has been filed against members of the Cabinet of then-President Benigno Aquino III over the MRT 3 mess.

Only recently, President Rodrigo Duterte directed the filing of new charges against those believed responsible for the train’s sorry state.
