Ronnie Dayan ‘no-show’ on state protection application

(Eagle News)– Ronnie Dayan, the former bodyguard and driver of Senator Leila De Lima, did not appear on Tuesday (November 29) at the Department of Justice (DOJ) where he was expected to apply for state protection due to his supposed knowledge on the illegal drug trade inside New Bilibid Prison (NBP).

Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II said they have not received any word from Dayan or the police assigned to him if he would go to the department.

“We are expecting Dayan or those who are holding him custody. Dapat meron man lang information sa amin but we received nothing,” Aguirre said.

Aguirre however clarified that it depends on Dayan if he wants to be enrolled in the DOJ’s Witness Protection Program (WPP).

“Wala na kasing warrant si Dayan. He is a free man and he could go anywhere he wants to go and nobody could compel him to go to the DOJ,” Aguirre explained.

Dayan was arrested and presented last week to the House probe on the alleged drug trade inside the NBP.

Convicted drug lords allegedly gave De Lima, through Dayan, millions of pesos to fund her senatorial campaign.

Dayan denied collecting drug money from high profile inmates but admitted to receiving money from drug lord Kerwin Espinosa for De Lima’s election campaign.   He said he did not know the amount of money he had handed over to De Lima.
